A Charleston Getaway: Food, Fashion, and Favorite Stops

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you may have caught glimpses of our quick trip to Charleston this past week. It wasn’t just a casual getaway—we were there visiting dear friends, one of whom will actually be officiating our wedding. With the big day only twenty-eight days away (how is that even possible?!), it felt extra special to squeeze in this time together.

Charleston has long been one of our favorite cities, a place we find ourselves returning to again and again. No matter how many times we visit, it always feels like there’s something new to discover—whether it’s a tucked-away restaurant, a beautifully curated shop, or simply the charm of wandering cobblestone streets lined with pastel-colored houses. This trip was no exception. We managed to pack in plenty of our favorites, though of course I found myself wishing we had just a little more time.

Several of you asked for recommendations, so I pulled together a list of the dining and shopping highlights from this visit (and a few long-time favorites too). If Charleston is on your travel list, consider this your cheat sheet to some of the best the city has to offer.

Dining in Charleston: A Feast for Every Mood

Charleston’s food scene is reason enough to book a trip. Truly, it’s one of the most dynamic and delicious in the country, and this visit reaffirmed why we always leave craving more.

  • F.I.G.
A Charleston classic for good reason. Their menu changes daily based on what’s freshest, and every plate feels thoughtful and balanced. It’s the kind of meal you linger over, savoring each bite.
  • The Ordinary
Located in a former bank, this seafood hall is anything but ordinary. From oysters to crudos, everything is impeccably fresh. The building’s soaring ceilings add to the experience, making it a favorite spot for a lively dinner.
  • Monza
A cozy stop for Italian comfort food that never disappoints. Think wood-fired pizzas, hearty pastas, and a bustling atmosphere that makes you want to linger.

Other staples we love and recommend include Husk (farm-to-table Southern done beautifully), McCrady’s Tavern (a slice of Charleston history with a refined touch), Minero (casual Mexican with inventive flavors), and Leon’s Oyster Shop (fried chicken and oysters—need I say more?).

And while we didn’t make it this time, our friends insisted that La Farfalle is a must for anyone who loves Italian. It’s at the top of my list for our next visit.

One tradition we never skip? Cocktails and charcuterie at The Belmont Bar. It’s the perfect place to settle in after a day of exploring. The cocktails are always spot on, the charcuterie boards are plentiful, and—best of all—they serve house-made pop tarts for dessert. Yes, you read that correctly. Retro, playful, and completely addictive.

Shopping in Charleston: Where Style Meets Southern Charm

Beyond the food, Charleston has quietly become a fashion destination. The boutiques here have such a strong point of view, and they’re filled with treasures you won’t easily find elsewhere.

  • Hampden Clothing
A must-visit for anyone who loves fashion. Their buying is consistently inspiring, pulling together a mix of designers that feels both wearable and aspirational. The shoe selection in particular is outstanding—trust me, I speak from experience.
  • Worthwhile
More than just a store, it’s an artful experience. The space itself is inspiring, and inside you’ll find a mix of established designers like Rick Owens alongside emerging artisans creating one-of-a-kind pieces. It’s the sort of place you visit and instantly feel like you’ve stumbled on something special.
  • Candy Shop Vintage
This shop is pure joy for anyone who appreciates jewelry. My friend Deirdre curates an amazing selection of vintage costume pieces and also designs her own line, which includes whimsical, wear-everywhere pieces (I’m still swooning over her croissant necklace). It’s a place where history, creativity, and style collide beautifully.

Whether you’re hunting for an investment piece or simply want to be inspired, Charleston’s shopping scene delivers.

What I Wore in Charleston

Part of the fun of visiting a city as stylish as Charleston is curating outfits that feel right for the setting. I had a lot of fun planning looks for this trip—easy, versatile pieces that could carry me from brunch to shopping to an evening out. Think breezy dresses paired with block-heel sandals, lightweight knits layered for unpredictable spring weather, and statement accessories to dress things up without much effort. Charleston’s pastel backdrop doesn’t hurt either—every outfit seems to pop just a little more against those iconic pink and blue facades.

Looking Ahead

As always, leaving Charleston made me a little wistful, wishing for just one more day. But the timing couldn’t be more exciting—with the wedding countdown officially on, this trip felt like the perfect way to pause and soak up a bit of joy before the whirlwind ahead.

And speaking of whirlwinds, my suitcase barely has time to rest. Next week I’m off to Round Top Antiques Fair, followed immediately by Paris. It’s going to be a busy stretch, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you have an upcoming Charleston trip on your calendar—lucky you! I hope these suggestions help you make the most of it. And if you’ve already been, I’d love to hear your favorite spots. There’s always something new to add to the list.

Until next time, Charleston—you’ve stolen my heart all over again.
